BURLINGTON, VT – This morning, Democracy for America (DFA) announced its endorsement of Kesha Ram for Lieutenant Governor of Vermont.
Based in Burlington, this is DFA’s first lieutenant gubernatorial endorsement of the 2016 election cycle and the grassroots PAC’s only statewide endorsement in Vermont. DFA also supported Ram in her first race for the Vermont State House in 2008.
Statement from DFA Chair Jim Dean on the national grassroots progressive organization’s endorsement of Kesha Ram for Lieutenant Governor: "Democracy for America was proud to support Kesha when she beat the odds at just 21 years old to earn a seat in the legislature and we’re just as excited to back her now in her bid to serve as Vermont’s next Lieutenant Governor.
“In Montpelier, Kesha has consistently stood up to establishment insiders and powerful special interests to fight for Vermont’s children and families.
“As a Vermont-based national political organization, we’ve seen Kesha’s fierce advocacy for the people of our state in the legislature and our members in the Green Mountain State and across the country can’t wait to see her bring that same fighting spirit to the Lieutenant Governor’s office.”-- Jim Dean, Chair, Democracy for America
Statement from Kesha Ram on earning the support of DFA’s grassroots members in Vermont and across the country: “Eight years ago, I was outspent in my campaign for the legislature nearly 3-to-1 and lacked the support of Montpelier insiders. Democracy for America recognized the movement I was creating at the grassroots and lent their support when the odds were against me in a race I won with the largest margin of any challenger in the state.
“Now, in my candidacy for Lieutenant Governor, I am honored to again have the endorsement of DFA, an organization built on Vermont values of progressive and responsive leadership. I look forward to working with DFA to continue putting the interests of Vermont families ahead of political insiders.” -- Kesha Ram
DFA’s endorsement of Ram brings with it a grassroots army of more than 16,180 in Vermont and more than 1 million nationwide that has knocked on hundreds of thousands of doors, made over 11.1 million phone calls, and raised and contributed more than $36.6 million to help elect 843 progressive candidates nationwide since 2004.
Democracy for America (DFA) is a member-driven, people-powered progressive PAC committed to taking on income inequality, money in politics, and structural racism.
